CSLIB Continues Mentorship Through OJT and Work Immersion Programs

Every semester, the College of Science Libraries (CSLIB) opens its doors to students seeking hands-on learning experiences through its On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Work Immersion opportunities. As part of its continuing extension and capacity-building initiatives, CSLIB remains committed to mentoring future information professionals and providing students with meaningful exposure to academic library work.

During the 2nd Semester of the Academic Year 2025-2026, CSLIB welcomed three batches of students. The first two batches consisted of five (5) Grade 12 students from the Ramon Magsaysay (Cubao) High School and ten (10) Grade 12 students from Capitol Hills Christian School, who completed their Work Immersion requirements across the CS Libraries. Throughout their immersion, the students gained firsthand experience in assisting library users, handling library materials, and also learning essential workplace values alongside the CSLIB Staff.

CSLIB also hosted two (2) undergraduate students from the University of the Philippines School of Library and the Information Studies (UP SLIS) for their On-The-Job training under LIS 181. Assigned at the CS Central Library and the National Institute of Physics Library, the OJTs culminated their internship by organizing Create and Chill, an arts-and-crafts activity designed to give students a creative and relaxing break from academic stress. This activity successfully engaged more than a hundred students, with many participants giving the activity a five-star rating. The success of the activity reflected the dedication and creativity of the two UP SLIS OJTs, who effectively planned, organized, conducted, and concluded the program as part of their internship requirements.

Through initiatives like these, CSLIB continues to grow not only as a center for learning and research, but also as a nurturing environment for future librarians, student leaders, and creative community engagement.
