Create and Chill: CSLIB’s Creative Pause for the Community

May 18, 2026 | Activities, Initiatives

Amid the fast pace of deadlines, exams, and academic responsibilities, the College of Science Libraries (CSLIB) opened a space for creativity, relaxation, and self-expression through Create and Chill, a student-led arts and crafts activity conducted from April 21 to May 5, 2026.

Organized by two On-the-Job Trainees from the University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS) as part of their LIS 181 internship requirements, the activity transformed a section of the library into a colorful and welcoming creative corner where students could momentarily step away from academic pressure and reconnect with their artistic side.

Throughout the activity period, participants were invited to create personalized button pins, magnetic bookmarks, stickers, decorated paper cups, and origami artworks using various craft materials prepared by the organizers. A “Best Work of Art” contest was also held, encouraging participants to showcase their creativity and imagination.

More than a simple arts-and-crafts activity, Create and Chill became a refreshing outlet for students seeking mindful breaks during a demanding academic season. The activity successfully engaged more than a hundred participants, with many students expressing appreciation for the opportunity to relax, create, and socialize within the library environment. Feedback from participants highlighted the positive atmosphere of the activity, with many hoping for longer runs and more similar initiatives in the future.

Through initiatives like Create and Chill, CSLIB continues to affirm that libraries are not only spaces for study and research, but also environments that nurture creativity, wellness, and human connection within the academic community.
