CSLIB Benchmarks at Sorsogon State University: A Partnership Built on Shared Learning and Heart
On June 20, 2024, the University of the Philippines College of Science Library (CSLIB) embarked on a benchmarking visit to Sorsogon State University (SorSU), a journey that strengthened bonds, inspired innovation, and marked the beginning of a meaningful partnership between two institutions dedicated to advancing library excellence.
Led by Ms. Marie Antoinette Villaflor, Head Librarian of the College of Science Library, the delegation received an exceptionally warm welcome from the SorSU community. The team was graciously received by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldince F. De Jesus, Campus Director Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto, University Librarian Ms. Erlinda P. Enguerra, and the dedicated librarians and staff of SorSU.
The event opened with warm messages that set the tone for the collaboration and mutual respect. In his remarks, Dr. Escoto expressed his appreciation for the visit, noting that it was “a remarkable opportunity to exchange knowledge with one of the most prestigious institutions in the country.” The program continued with a virtual tour of SorSU and its E-Library, followed by insightful exchanges where Ms. Villaflor shared the CSLIB’s ongoing initiatives, and Mx. Fraymon Joy Cruz (College Librarian II, Head of Institute Libraries) presented the library’s pioneering developments, from research services and digital access platforms to community-centered programs that enhance student engagement.
A highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of the Philippines College of Science Library and Sorsogon State University, symbolizing a commitment to continued collaboration, shared learning, and joint initiatives in library development. The gesture was further deepened by a ceremonial book donation, embodying the spirit of knowledge-sharing and goodwill.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Enguerra expressed gratitude and emphasized the importance of collaboration among libraries in promoting growth, innovation, and excellence in service.
The CSLIB team left SorSU with renewed inspiration, grateful for the extraordinary hospitality and enriched by the exchange of ideas and experiences. This benchmarking activity marks only the beginning of an enduring partnership between the two libraries, one that promises continued cooperation and shared advocacy for accessible, innovative, and people-centered library services.
Once again, the College of Science Library extends its heartfelt thanks to Sorsogon State University, a true Pamantasang may puso.
